The couture collection „Agnosticism“ Spring/Summer 2019/20 deals with the question: Did God(s) create man or did man create God(s)? My main sources of inspiration were three different approaches to faith; Greek polytheism, Christian monotheism and African animism. “Agnosticism” illustrates not only the close connection between religion and culture, but also the dynamic interaction between different faiths set in different times and places.
At the same time, it recognizes features common to the way different faiths view their deities, such as their immortality, healing powers, and their judicial role. I emphasize this image through detailed craftsmanship and a general deconstruction of cut design, which integrates the solidity of intricate needlework with the lightness of flowing material. The result is an interesting contrast between delicacy and substance. The billowing textiles of antiquity, the veiling of sacred Christian garments, and the simplicity and bright colors of Africa are components of the outfits.
